Sonak Pastakia, PharmD, MPH, PhD, BCPS, FCCP serves as a Professor within the Purdue University College of Pharmacy and the Center for Health Excellence, Quality, and Innovation. He typically spends 10-11 months per year on site in rural Kenya with the Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare (AMPATH). Through his past 12 years in Kenya, he has focused on implementing a wide variety of programs including helping to establish a community based care program which now serves a community of over 15,000 3patients, a pharmacy distribution system which provides antiretroviral medications to over 127,000 people living with HIV at over 300 ministry of health clinics across western Kenya, a supply chain system for essential medications including cardiovascular disease medications at over 76 sites, and has helped design and build a school for vulnerable street youth. He also works in India to increase access to healthcare for the largest trade union of women in the world.
